Vladimir Nenashev Wins the 2018 World Coffee Roasting Championship

The results of the 2018 World Coffee Roasting Championship have just been released by World Coffee Events and the top threes places have gone to Vladimir Nenashev of Mosaic Coffee in Russia (1st), Yoshiyuki Nakamura of Mamepolepole in Japan (2nd) and Veda Viraswami of Le Café Alain Ducasse in France (3rd), according to event organiser World Coffee Events.

GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH GROWING RAPIDLY, STUDY SHOWS

Delft, the Netherlands, March 22, 2018 - 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic weighing 80,000 metric tons are currently afloat in an area known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch - and it is rapidly getting worse. These are the main conclusions of a three year mapping effort conducted by an international team of scientists affiliated with The Ocean Cleanup Foundation, six universities and an aerial sensor company. Their findings were published today in the journal Scientific Reports.

LitterSmart campaign launched on Rathlin Island

In the UK, 13 billion plastic bottles are sold every year, 7 million disposable coffee cups are thrown away along with approximately 8.5 billion plastic straws, so action is urgently needed!  Much of the litter we create is eaten by birds, fish and other species, leading to large numbers of fish having plastic in their gut.  At current rates there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.
