AeroPress Brew Guide

Print version (PDF)

The AeroPress is an inexpensive and portable coffee-making companion, great for making a quick cup of coffee with minimal mess.

You’ll need

  • Your favourite Causeway Coffee – beans or fresh-ground for filter
  • Grinder (unless using pre-ground coffee)
  • AeroPress Brewer
  • AeroPress filter paper
  • Spoon or AeroPress paddle
  • Timer
  • Hot water (just off the boil, preferably filtered)
  • Mug

Let’s get brewing!

Grinding coffee
  1. If starting with beans, grind as for filter coffee (about as fine as table salt). A good fresh grind is key to consistently great-tasting brew.

  2. Measure the ground coffee – one rounded AeroPress scoop or two tablespoons (around 15g).

  3. Pouring hot water into the AeroPress
  4. Assemble the AeroPress brew chamber body, filter paper and twist-on cap. Rinse and preheat both mug and AeroPress with hot water (flushing the filter avoids any slight paper taste).

  5. AeroPress on mug
  6. Place the AeroPress on top of your mug and add a scoop of ground coffee

  7. Pour hot water into the AeroPress to marker no. 4. Swirl and start timing.

  8. Stir the “slurry” (coffee and water mixture) with spoon or AeroPress paddle. Insert the plunger into the brew chamber and pull up slightly to create a pressure seal (don’t plunge yet!)

  9. Press down AeroPress
  10. After 1:15, remove the pressure seal and give the slurry another stir. Replace the plunger and gently press down with steady pressure, stopping as soon as you hear a hissing sound. The entire brew process should take just under two minutes.

Freshly-brewed coffee

Enjoy the great taste of a freshly-brewed coffee!

Note: The supplied AeroPress instructions give more detail on how to brew american-style, espresso, latte and cold brews.

The AeroPress is easy to clean. Simply take off the filter cap and pop out the coffee grounds and filter. Clean the rubber plunger with hot water and you’re ready for your next brew.
